    PRESIDENT FERDINAND MARCOS OF THE PHILIPPINES RETURNED TO MANILA ON MONDAY AFTER A 21-DAY VISIT TO THE UNITED STATES AND JAPAN. A LARGE CROWD WAS AT THE AIRPORT TO WELCOME THE PRESIDENT AND HIS WIFE.

    SHOUTS OF "MABUHAY" (LONG LIFE) RANG OUT FROM THE HUGE CROWD AS THE PRESIDENT AND HIS WIFE STEPPED OFF THE PLANE. WEARING A BARONG TAGALOG (FILIPINO NATIONAL COSTUME), PRESIDENT MARCOS INSPECTED A MILITARY GUARD OF HONOUR. THEN CAME A MARCH PAST OF THE GUARDS.

    A 21-GUN SALUTE BOOMED AS THE PRESIDENT WAS CHAIRED BY SOME OF HIS ADMIRERS, MOST OF THEM VETERANS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR. THE PRESIDENT AND MRS IMELDA MARCOS WERE THEN JOINED BY THEIR THREE CHILDREN AND THEY DROVE TO THE MALACANANG PALACE.

    PRESIDENT MARCOS OBTAINED MORE THAN 1,000,000,000 UNITED STATES DOLLARS CREDIT FROM GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE SOURCES IN THE UNITED STATE AND JAPAN DURING HIS TRIP ABROAD. THE LOAN IS TO HELP HIS GOVERNMENT'S FOUR-YEAR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME.
