  • Description

Hundreds of Monrovians crowded the Liberian capital's streets on Tuesday (25 January) to demonstrate their support for the country's only nomination for Vice-President, Senator James Edward Greene.

Senator Greene will run for the office vacated by President Tolbert, who took over the Government following the death of President Tubman in July last year. The elections are scheduled for the 2nd of April, and Senator Green has persuaded Liberia's political observers that he is a top candidate for the position. So far there have been no other nominations.

SYNOPSIS: President Tolbert and Senator Greene also have similar views on the party's attitude towards the United Nations and the Organisation of African Unity -- maintaining that the country should give all possible support and assistance. The Presidential elections -- scheduled to go ahead on the 2nd of April -- are reported to be almost certain to return President Tolbert and his new running-mate, Senator Greene.
