    ALTHOUGH THE FRONTIER BETWEEN EL SALVADOR AND HONDURAS IS NOW QUIT, RALLIES IN SUPPORT OF GOVERNMENT POLICIES HAVE TAKEN PLACE AT CIVILIAN LEVEL. IN SAN SALVADOR ITS WOMEN GAVE ENTHUSIASTIC ENDORSEMENT TO A SPEECH BY ITS PRESIDENT, IN WHICH HE SPOKE OF THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THEIR CAUSE.

    LATER THEY MARCHED THROUGH THE CITY STREETS WHILE ANOTHER GROUP GATHERED OUTSIDE THE AMERICAN EMBASSY. THEY WERE PROTESTING THE ROLE OF THE OAS, MEDIATORS IN THE DISPUTE, AND CALLING UPON ITS REPRESENTATIVES TO GO HOME.

    (FIVE DAYS OF OPEN HOSTILITIES BROKE OUT BETWEEN EL SALVADOR AND HER CENTRAL AMERICAN NEIGHBOUR HONDURAS ON JULY 14. IT FOLLOWED RIOTING IN HONDURAS IN WHICH 14,000 SALVADOREANS FLED THE COUNTRY. EL SALVADOR INTERVENED AND STILL OCCUPIES PORTIONS OF HONDURAN TERRITORY.)
