The Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister, Senor Marcelino Oreja, has been in Mauritania for bilateral talks. At the end of the 24-hour visit, Senor Oreja said his discussions with the Mauritanian authorities had resulted in both parties achieving a "perfect identity of views" in discussions which ranged from the Western Saharan conflict to bilateral fishing agreements.
SYNOPSIS: The Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ould Mouknass was at Nouakchott airport to great his Spanish counterpart last Friday (7 April). The Ministers held two working sessions together and senor Oreja was also received by Mauritania's President Ould Daddah. On of the subjects of discussion was reported to be the Western Saharan conflict, which began after the former Spanish colony was handed over to Mauritania and Morocco. The Polisario Front, a Sahara liberation movement, has been waging a guerrilla war against the two countries and Spain has been anxious to remain natural. Senor Oreja's visit -- his first for 12 years -- is part of an African tour.
