  • Description

THE NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR OPENS NEXT WEDNESDAY. WORKMEN HAVE SPENT MANY WEEKS BUILDING THE PAVILIONS THAT COVER AN AREA OF MORE THAN SIX HUNDREDS ACRES. NOT ONLY HAS THE WORK BEEN GOING ON ABOVE GROUND - WORKMEN HAVE ALSO PUT DOWN FIFTY MILES OF PIPING AND FIVE HUNDRED MILES OF CABLE AT THE SITE.

THE SWISS PAVILION WILL FEATURE THOSE ASPECTS OF LIFE IN SWITZERLAND THAT HAVE MADE THAT COUNTRY FAMOUS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. A WATCH PAVILION - DISPLAYING ALL THE FAMOUS SWISS MAKES WILL ATTRACT A LOT OF ATTENTION. THE SWISS TOO HAVE UNDERTAKEN TO PROVIDE THE OFFICIAL TIME FOR THE FAIR, ERECTING ELECTRONIC CLOCKS ABOVE EACH ENTRANCE GATE, AND A LARGE ATOMIC CLOCK IN THEIR OWN PAVILION. A CHALET RESTAURANT WILL SERVE SWISS CHEESES AND WINES AMONG OTHER DELICACIES. THE PAVILION ITSELF HAS BEEN DECORATED WITH LARGE MURALS FEATURING ASPECTS OF SWISS HISTORY. AMONG THEM - ONE DEPICTING WILLIAM TELL.

TWO PAVILIONS ARE REPRESENTING JAPAN. ONE WILL BE ERECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT, THE OTHER WILL FEATURE EXHIBITS FROM JAPANESE INDUSTRY. A FEATURE HERE WILL BE A THEATRE, SEATING EIGHT HUNDRED, WHERE MANY TYPES OF TRADITIONAL JAPANESE ENTERTAINMENT WILL BE PRESENTED. NATIVE STONE IS FEATURED IN AN ADAPTATION OF A JAPANESE FEUDAL CASTLE WHICH WILL INCLUDE A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE GARDEN COURT.

SPAIN'S INFLUENCE ON THE HISTORY OF THE AMERICAS WILL BE THE DOMINANT THEME OF THE SPANISH PAVILION. THERE WILL BE A LARGE DISPLAY OF VALUABLE PAINTINGS BY SUCH SPANISH MASTERS AS GOYA, EL GRECO, VELAZQUEZ AND ZURBARAN. THE SPANISH PAVILION WILL ALSO HAVE A THEATRE AND THE STARS THAT WILL APPEAR THERE INCLUDE ANTONIO AND HIS SPANISH DANCERS, THE GUITARIST SEGOVIA AND THE SOPRANO VICTORIA DE LOS ANGELES.

THE HONGKONG PAVILION REFLECTS THE "GLAMOUR OF THE EAST". A SPECIAL EXHIBIT HERE IS A DISPLAY OF RARE CHINA AND RELIGIOUS STATUETTES. A LAGOON OF EMARALDS HAS ALSO BEEN BUILT IN THE STAND.

THAILAND WILL EXHIBIT A REPLICA OF THE TEMPLE OF THE DAWN IN BANGKOK - A LANDMARK DEDICATED TO THE BUDDHIST RELIGION AND WAY OF LIFE, AND SEEN ANNUALLY BY THOUSANDS OF TOURISTS. IT WILL CONTAIN AN EXHIBITION AREA, A GIFT SHOP AND A RESTAURANT.
