    GENERAL GEORGE GRIVAS, LEADER OF THE FORMER EOKA RESISTANCE MOVEMENT IN CYPRUS, HAS BEEN VISITING THE CAVE WHERE HIS CHIEF DEPUTY WAS KILLED BY BRITISH TROOPS IN 1957.

    ACCOMPANIED BY PRIESTS AND FRIENDS, HE HAD TO CLIMB A STEEP HILL TO REACH THE CAVE NEAR THE MAKHEROS MONASTERY IN CENTRAL CYPRUS.

    DURING A MEMORIAL SERVICE AT THE CAVE ENTRANCE, GENERAL GRIVAS RENEWED HIS CALL FOR UNION WITH GREECE, CRYING "LONG LIVE ENCSIS," AS THE CROWD APPLAUDED.

    AFTER THE SERVICE, HE LAID A WREATH IN MEMORY OF HIS FORMER DEPUTY, WHO LOST HIS LIFE IN A LONE GUN BATTLE WITH 60 BRITISH SOLDIERS.

    (FROM ATHENS TONIGHT IT IS REPORTED THAT THE GREEK GOVERNMENT HAVE INVITED PRESIDENT MAKARIOS TO FURTHER TALKS ON THE ISLAND'S PROBLEMS. HE IS EXPECTED TO GO TO ATHENS TOMORROW).
