TRANSCRIPT: SEQ.1: NJONJO: "I have retired from government service with effect from next Friday, the 25th. I have reached the retiring age and all good things must come to an end, I feel. I have served this country as Attorney General for Kenya since 1963. In fact I was reminded in one of out Commonwealth Law Ministers' conferences that I am the oldest, not in the tooth but in the term of service. I have also decided as the result of a request from a number of people from the Kikuyu constituency to offer myself as a candidate for Kikuyu."

Background: Kenya's Attorney General, Mr. Charles Njonjo, has resigned from his country's top Civil Service post to contest a Parliamentary seat. mr. Njonjo said he had met with persistent requests from the elders and the people of the Kikuyo constituency who want him to become their member of parliament.
