    SKI-JUMPING ON A JUNE DAY. THAT'S THE WINTER SPORT JAPANESE STUDENTS ENJOYED IN YESTERDAY'S HIGH TEMPERATURES IN TOKYO. LOCAL UNIVERSITY TEAMS SOARED FROM A SLOPE MADE OF PLASTIC FIBRE -- SPRAYED TO MAKE SMOOTH, SLIPPERY AND FAST.

    THERE WAS A THRILL A MINUTE FOR THE SHIRT-SLEEVED CROWD AT THIS SUMMER SKI MEETING -- THE FIRST OF ITS KIND TO BE HELD IN JAPAN. MANY OF THE JUMPERS FOUND THE PLASTIC SLOPE DIFFICULT AND THERE WERE SEVERAL SPILLS - BUT FORTUNATELY NO INJURIES.

    THIRTY OF JAPAN'S TOP AMATEUR SKIERS TOOK PART IN THE CONTEST WHICH WAS STAGED BY A TOKYO NEWSPAPER AT THEIR AMUSEMENT PARK ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE CAPITAL.

    YUKIO KASAYA, WITH 222.7 POINTS, WAS FIRST AND SECOND PLACE WAS TAKEN BY RIKIO YOSHIDA WITH 220.8 POINTS. KASAYA REPRESENTED JAPAN IN THE 1964 WINTER GAMES AT INNSBRUCK.
