THE 23-YEAR-OLD BRITISH OFFICIAL, DEREK ROSE, WAS SHOT TWICE IN THE BACK OF THE NECK IN A SHOP AT STEAMER POINT. THE MILITANT ARAB NATIONAL LIBERATION FRONT CLAIMED ITS COMMANDO HAD KILLED MR. ROSE. IN CRATER TOWN SOLDIERS OF THE ARGYLL AND SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDERS SHOT DEAD FIVE ARABS.

    BRITISH COMPANY COMMANDER MAJOR IAN ROBERTSON SHOT DEAD A MAN WHO THREW A GRENADE AT HIS ESCORT VEHICLE. IN ANOTHER INCIDENT HIGHLANDERS OPENED FIRE AT A TAXI TRYING TO EVADE A ROADBLOCK AND KILLED THE DRIVER. THE ARAB PASSENGER WAS SHOT DEAD WHEN HE TRIED TO ESCAPE.

    ANOTHER ARAB WAS SHOT DEAD AFTER A CAR CHASE THROUGH THE STREETS OF MAALLA. THE MAN HAD IGNORED ORDERS TO STOP, A MILITARY SPOKESMAN SAID.

    TODAY;S CASUALTIES BROUGHT TO 25 THE NUMBER OF ARABS KILLED BY TROOPS SINCE THE HIGHLANDERS TOOK OVER THE CRATER DISTRICT ON JUNE 20.
