    TRANSCRIPT: Prince Philip: ".....British Association in a series of articles called 'The Mudfog Papers' in which he deals with the meetings of the 'Mudfog Association for the Advancement of Everything'. Splendid characters like Professor Snore, Doze and Wheezy, Messrs Muddlebranes and Drawley, Rummun and Pumkinskull address and argue in sections devoted to Umbugology and Ditchwateristics. The meetings were held at a public house called the 'Original Pig' and the paper read to the Umbugology section dealt with the question of a one-eyed bay pony which invariably winked its eye and whisked its tail at the same moment. The final comment was provided by Professor Woodensconse at the culminating banquet; "This is what we meet for, this is what inspires us, this is what keeps us together and beckons us onwards, this is the spread of science, and what a glorious spread it is".

    Background: Visnews cameramen at Delhi University Jan 22 filmed a special convocation during which Prince Philip received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from the Chancellor, Dr. Radhakrishnan. Accompanied by Indian Premier Pandit Nehru, the Prince walked in procession through the vast distinguished gathering to the Presidium.

    In the citation, the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rao, hailed the Prince as "not only a great and gracious Englishman but also a steadfast and sincere friend of India". The Prince prefaced his address by reading a message of good wishes from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Theme of his address was "The British Association for the Advancement of Science", as past President of which he is attending the Indian Science Congress. In his address he spoke of the enjoyment Charles Dickens had at the expense of the British Association.

    His Royal Highness arrived in New Delhi Jan 21 to begin a 36,000 mile Asian and Pacific tour. His itinerary includes visits to Pakistan, Singapore, Sarawak, North Borneo, HongKong, the Solomon-Gilbert-Ellice and Christmas Islands. Panama and the West Indies. 19,700 miles by air and 16,300 aboard the Royal Yacht 'Britannia'. He is scheduled to arrive back in Britain April 30.
