  • Description

PRESIDENT TITO OF YUGOSLAVIA AND PRESIDENT CEAUSESCU OF RUMANIA MET TODAY (SATURDAY) AT THE BORER TOWN OF KLADAVO FOR A TWO-HOUR CONFERENCE.

WHILE AT KLADAVO, THE TWO LEADERS EXAMINED THE IRON GATES HYDRO-ELECTRIC PLANT BUILT BY RUMANIA AND YUGOSLAVIA ON THE RIVER DANUBE.

DURING THE TALKS THE LEADERS AND THEIR AIDED HAD A WIDE EXCHANGE OF VIEWS ON CURRENT INTERNATIONAL AND BI-LATERAL TOPICS IN WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS A SPIRIT OF FRANKNESS AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING.

BOTH COUNTRIES ARE PURSUING FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC POLICIES INDEPENDENT OF THOSE OF THE SOVIET-LED COUNTRIES. YUGOSLAVIA WAS HIGHLY CRITICAL LAST YEAR AT THE WARSAW PACT FORCES INTERVENTION IN PRAGUE, WHILE RUMANIA WAS THE ONLY MEMBER OF THE PACT NOT TO SEND TROOPS TO CZECHOSLOVAKIA.

A HUGE CROWD WAS WAITING TO CHEER BOTH PRESIDENTS AND THEIR WIVES AS THEY ARRIVED FOR THE TALKS THE LEADERS MADE A DETAILED INSPECTION OF THE NEAR-COMPLETED DAM, WHICH WILL PROVIDE ELECTRICITY FOR BOTH YUGOSLAVIA AND RUMANIA.

LATER PRESIDENT THUD GAVE A BANQUET IN HONOUR OF PRESIDENT CEAUSESCU IN KLADAVO, WHICH IS ON THE YUGOSLAV SIDE OF THE BORDER THEN THE TWO PRESIDENT CROSSED OVER TO RUMANIA FOR FURTHER TALKS. DURING WHICH THEY AGREED THAT FIRM CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES WAS VITAL TO PRESERVE THEIR INDEPENDENCE AND STRENGTHEN THEIR ECONOMY.
