Background: Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan opened the new session of parliament in Amman on Wednesday. In his opening address to the assembly Prince Hassan congratulated Syria, Sudan, Libya and Egypt on the formation of their multi-national union.
The new Parliament is the first since the formation of a new Government at the time of the civil war. One of its first tasks will be to tackle the major problems of reconstruction following the bitter fighting between the army and Palestine guerrillas.
Prince Hassan also commented on the Middle-East situation and said Jordan supported the United Nations resolutions concerning the area. He blamed Israel for not wanting peace.
The Crown Prince was presiding over the Parliament in the absence of King Hussein who is visiting Britain.
