    THE NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS TAKEN DELIVERY OF WHAT IS BELIEVED TO BE THE WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL FIRE PUMP EQUIPMENT.

    THE EQUIPMENT WAS DEVELOPED BY THE MACK MOTOR COMPANY, AND COSTS 875-THOUSAND DOLLARS (GBP318-THOUSAND).

    THE EQUIPMENT CONSISTS OF FIVE FIRE UNITS. ThE LARGEST HAS A WATER CANNON WITH A CAPACITY OF 10-THOUSAND GALLONS A MINUTE. ANOTHER CAN SPRAY AT 8,800 GALLONS A MINUTE, WHILE THE THREE OTHER TENDERS EACH HAVE A SPRAY OF FOUR THOUSAND GALLONS A MINUTE. (THE AVERAGE TENDER USED IN NEW YORK CAN THROW ONLY ONE THOUSAND GALLONS A MINUTE).

    THE EQUIPMENT ALSO INCLUDED MORE THAN 8-THOUSAND FEET OF HOSE.

    WATER CAN BE PUMPED FROM RIVERS, DAM OR FIRE HYDRANTS.
