Background: An unmanned Gemini spacecraft was shot into orbit from Cape Kennedy in Florida on April 8. The craft is designed to carry two men and will play a big part in the American man-on-the-Moon project.
The launching by a Titan missile was watched by the twenty nine astronauts in training for the programme. Two of these will later be orbited in a craft similar to that just launched.
The Gemini spacecraft weighs seven thousand pounds.
