Background: The Syrian Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Abdul Halim Kahadam, arrived in Doha on Friday (17 March) on a one-day visit to Qatar. He was accompanied by Mr Adnan Umran, a senior Syrian official.
The Syrian visitors were met by the Quateri Minister For Foreign affaire, Sheikh Suhaim bin Hamad al-Thani, who later gave a dinner party in Mr Khadam's honour.
After the dinner, Sheikh Suhaim accompanied Mr Khadam on a visit to the Emir at his palace.
Mr Khadam is understood to have brought greeting from the Syrian Government and congratulations to the Emir, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamed al-Thani, on his accession to power on 22 February.
SYNOPSIS: The Syrian Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Abdul Khadam, arrived in Daha on Friday for a twenty-four hour visit to Qatar. At the airport to meet him were senior Qatari officials, headed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Suhaim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Mr Khadam was accompanied by a senior Syrian official, Mr Adnan Umran. The two sides met later for discussions on matters of mutual concern. Mr Khadam also brought greetings and congratulations form the Syrian Government to the new Emir of Qater, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani, who took power a month ago. Mr Khadam visited the Emir in his place.
