    A three-day International Conference on Manpower has been held in Accra, Ghana.

    Delegates from Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and the United States attended the conference which was opened on Monday 29 July and concluded on Wednesday 31 July.

    The Opportunities Industrialisation Centre (OIC), Ghana, organised the conference which examined manpower training programmes.

    Special guest was the Reverend Doctor Leon H. Sullivan, founder of O.I.C. in the United States. OIC has branches in 100 U.S. cities and set up the Ghana branch to train nationals to fill job vacancies created by technical advancement in that country.

    Delegates to the conference were welcomed to Ghana at a luncheon. They were addressed by the Secretary to the National Redemption Council, Mr. E. M. Debrah.

    He called on Ghanaians to support the OIC, not only morally but with financial contributions and gifts of machinery and equipment which they could use to train young Ghanaians who have been unable to win a place in the country's educational institutions.

    Speakers at the conference which followed the luncheon were Dr. R. P. Baffour, a prominent Ghanaian who spoke on the subject of Human Resources in Economic and Social Growth; the director of the National Vocational Training Institute, Rear Admiral hansen, whose topic was Ghana Manpower Needs and Present Facilities; and Rev. Dr. Sullivan.

    SYNOPSIS: Guests attending an international conference on manpower-training programmes held in Ghana this week were welcomed at a pre-conference luncheon in Accra.

    The Secretary to the National Redemption Council, Mr. E. M. Debrah welcomed delegates from Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and the United States.

    The conference proper got underway at the British Council Hall on Monday evening. it was organised by the Opportunities Industrialization Centre, Ghana, whose Director, Mr. William Opare received the visitors.

    The founder of O.I.C. in the United States, Dr. Leon H. Sullivan, was a special guest speaker and arrived at the conference with prominent Ghana citizen Dr. R. P. Baffour. Dr. Baffour was the first speaker at the conference and spoke on human resources in economic and social growth.

    The conference -- which ended on Wednesday -- discussed manpower programme such as OIC, to train nationals to fill job vacancies created by technical advancement.
