CATS AND KITTENS OF ALL DESCRIPTIONS FILLED LONDON'S OLYMPIA TODAY (SATURDAY) FOR BRITAIN'S NATIONAL CAT SHOW.

  • Description

CATS AND KITTENS OF ALL DESCRIPTIONS FILLED LONDON'S OLYMPIA TODAY (SATURDAY) FOR BRITAIN'S NATIONAL CAT SHOW. UNLIKE ITS COUNTERPART IN THE DOG WORLD "CRUFTS", THE SHOW IS OPEN TO ALL CATS AND THE MOST HAUGHTY THOROUGHBRED MIGHT WELL FIND ITSELF COMPETING WITH THE ALLEY CAT NEXT DOOR.

OF COURSE PEDIGREE COUNTS A GOOD DEAL IN SOME CLASSES AND MANY OF THE LITTLE PERSIAN KITTENS COULD BOAST A LINE OF CHAMPION ANCESTORS WITH VERY DISTINGUISHED NAMES. AND FOR THE VERY DISTINGUISHED CATS THERE WERE SOME INTERESTING ACCESSORIES -- NOT LEAST A SORT OF 20TH CENTURY WARMING PAN.

EVERY SHOW HAS IT'S VETERANS AND THE CAT SHOW BOASTS A NUMBER OF ELDERS. "JAMIE", ACCLAIMED AS THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS BLUE PERSIAN, ONCE AGAIN COLLECTED FIRST PRIZE. AT 121/2 "JAMIE" TAKES IT IN HIS STRIDE -- HE'S BEEN COLLECTING FIRST PRIZES EVER SINCE HE CAN REMEMBER.

AN INTERESTING FEATURE OF THIS YEAR'S SHOW WAS THE FIRST RUSSIAN CAT, BUT THAT'S NOT STRICTLY TRUE BECAUSE "KISS KISS" CAN ALMOST CLAIM BRITISH NATIONALITY. SHE WAS FOUND AS A STRAY IN MOSCOW BY A DIPLOMAT'S WIFE WHEN SHE WAS LIVING THERE. WHEN THE FAMILY CAME HOME, "KISS KISS" CAME TOO. OF COURSE SHE HAD TO SPEND SIX MONTHS IN QUARANTINE, NUT NOW SHE'S SETTLED DOWN COMFORTABLY TO LIFE IN MARBLE ARCH -- A VERITABLE LONDONER.

THERE WERE MORE THAN A THOUSAND CATS ON SHOW. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE WITH CREAMS AND BLUES; REDS AND BROWNS; BLACKS AND WHITES; LONG HAIRED AND SHORT HAIRED; SIAMESE AND BURMESE; TORTOISESHELLS AND MARMALADES; AND MIXTURES OF EVERY DESCRIPTION. THERE WAS EVEN A CLASS FOR WORKING CATS. THE RULES STATE: OPEN TO ALL CATS "EMPLOYED IN SHOP OFFICE OR FACTORY ETC". AND ANOTHER SPECIAL CLASS CUT OUT THE FEMININE FELINE ENTHUSIAST, IT WAS FOR CATS OWNED BY MEN ONLY -- BUT THERE WEREN'T MANY ENTRIES.
