    Background: Indian Premier Pandit Nehru arrived in Cairo, Egypt, May 17 to begin a seven-day official visit to the United Arab Republic. Soon after his arrival from London, where he has been attending the Commonwealth Premier Conference, he drove to the Kubbah Republican Palace and was greeted by the U.A.R. President Nasser.

    The Paris Summit fiasco and the situation in the Middle East generally, were two subjects discussed by the two leaders. Also present at the meeting were Dr. Mahmoud Fawzi, the U.A.R. Foreign Minister; El-Sayed Aly Sabry, the Minister for Presidential Affairs; the Indian Ambassador to the United Arab Republic and the U.A.R. Ambassador to the to India.

    Later that same afternoon, Premier Nehru visited the Aswan High Dam site. May 18 he toured the Luxor Nubian monuments, and on May 19 he is scheduled to visit refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. After a four-day stay in Egypt, he will go on for a three-day stay in Syria.
