  • Description

Cyclo-Cross (Cross Country Cycling) stars from Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy and Switzerland competed in the International meeting at Overboelare, Belgium, Feb. 28.

Although the weather was fine and sunny previous rainfall made the going difficult in some parts of the 25 kilometre course.

Right from the start Rolf Wolfshohl of Germany - winner of the Cyclo-Cross World Championships in Tolosa, Spain, last week - and Renato Longe - ex champion of the World and champion of Italy - took the lead, but were hotly pursued by the large field.

Hungerbuhler of Switzerland was forced to retire in the second lap with a fractured ankle.

It was only in the last but one lap from home that Belgian champion, Rene Declercq overtook the German champion and beat him by six seconds to the tape. Longo finished third.
