Background: A rally ten thousand strong was held in Peking on April 24th to give a big welcome to the nine Chinese who were subjected to persecution in Brazil but who have triumphantly returned to China.
Vice Premier Li Hsien-nien attended the rally.
The opening speech was made by Wan Li, Peking's Vice Mayor. Vice Premier Lu Ting-yi pointed out that the triumphant return of the nine comrades constituted another defeat for the anti-China plot engineered by US imperialism. He commended the nine on their lofty, revolutionary spirit of dauntless perseverance in a struggle. The most urgent task confronting the people of China and the rest of the world now, the Chinese Vice-Premier continued, is to assist the Vietnamese people to the best of our ability in their great patriotic struggle against US imperialist aggression. In discharging their internationalist obligations, he said, the Chinese people have never faltered. They are resolved to stand together with the Vietnamese people in storm or stress and no matter how great the price.
Nan Han-chen, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade declared: Those who are guilty and who will ultimately be put on trial by the people of Brazil are none other than US imperialism and its flunkeys who subverted the legal government of Brazil and who are subjecting the Brazilian people to pillage and oppression.
On behalf of the nine returned Chinese, Wang Yao-ting declared that they will continue to work hard and make fresh contributions to China's Socialist revolution and Socialist construction and to the common struggle of people the world over against imperialism and all reactionaries.
