  • Description

Leftwing Argentinean urban guerrillas have claimed responsibility for a bomb blast at the home of a former Justice Minister in Buenos Aires on Friday night (14 January), which killed four police explosives experts as they tried to defuse it.

Six of the disposal men's colleagues and three passers-by were also injured.

The self-styled Armed Liberation Forces (FAL) said they sent the bomb because their intended victim, former Justice Minister Jaime Perriaux, was "the principal ideologist of repression, father of the death penalty, the Federal Chamber of Terror, and repressive legislation".

The guerrillas missed their target, since Dr. Perriaux, who held the portfolio from July 1970 to the middle of 1971, was 1,800 miles (3000 kms) away in the port of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego.
