Background: SYNOPSIS: Albert Park Lake in Melbourne ... where some of Australia's fastest speedboats take part in a regatta ... and where the names give a hint of what's to come. Members of the Victorian Speed Boat Club organized the afternoon ... and the money raised goes to Australia's oldest-established youth club -- the Try Boys' Society at South Yarra.
Streaking across the lake now comes HURRICANE, at a steady ninety miles an hour.
During the afternoon a New Australian Speedboat record was set by champion race Bill Burreel in the SKIPA. Averaging sixty miles an hour he clipped two point three seconds off the existing record.
The scorching temperatures kept many speedboat enthusiasts away from the park ... and attendance was well below expectations. But the crowd which braved the heat saw HURRICANE cross the line here to finish in the A-grade section.
For the spectators ... another thrill, as a fine exhibition of water skiing gets under way.
For some, the cool attractions of the lake proved too strong with the temperature at one-hundred- and three degrees ... but others, like Ron Rowland gave a faultless display here on Albert Park Lake.
