  • Description

About 27 million filipino voters went to the polls on thursday (27 February) to decide whether to confirm the powers President Ferdinand Marcos assumed when he declared marital law throughout the country 29 months ago.)
There was a heavy turnout early in the day at the 72,000 polling stations.

The president Marcos and his wife Imelda were among the early voters when they cast their vote at a centre near the Malacanang Place.

The President said earlier this week that he would step down if the poll was unfavourable; but this appears unlikely. As the first, unofficial results from the polling stations came in it seemed President Marcos would receive the mandate to continue his rule by an overwhelming majority.
