Background: The Gabonese Secretary of State, Dr. Martin, recently visited President Mobutu at the palace which he is building on Mount Stanley.
The visitor was shown around the Presidential park which is being hewn out of the jungle. When completed the park will hold a four-storey palace which will include a salon in which 3,000 people can be entertained. Four years ago the area was rough jungle, but armies of workmen have been busy transforming it. Other features which will be included in the completed plan will be three waterfalls and one open air theatre.
