Representatives of twenty-two co-operatives operating throughout the northland are in Povungituk, to consolidate the progress made since the first conference three years ago in Frobisher Bay. New co-operatives are being formed and links are being made with other outposts in northern Ontario and Quebec. At the conference this week, Tamusee Tulugak, the vice-president of the Povungituk co-operative, was elected chairman. Co-operatives for carvings, handicrafts and other items of Eskimo culture are already in operation, and one is planned now to set up facilities for tourists. A central marketing system is also being considered.
