    The first meeting of the Ghana-Mali Joint Commission for Co-operation opened in Accra's State House on Friday (June 23). During four days of discussions the two sides will be considering plans for co-operation in trade, agriculture, health, science, education and communications.

    At the opening session, Ghana's Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Major-General Nathaniel Aferi told the commission that a major factor in poverty is dependence on trade and commerce from outside. He urged the commission to take the first steps to rectify this problem.

    The Mali delegation to the talks is headed by Mr. Modibo Diallo, Director-General of Economic Affairs in the Foreign Ministry.
