SYNOPSIS: In Senegal delegates from sixty countries in Africa, Europe and the Americas have been meeting to discuss Negritude, the concept of Negro culture. They heard President Leopold Senghor describe negritude as a combination of values belonging not only to black Africa, but to black minorities in America, Asia and Oceania. Quoting European parallels, the President said national revival always followed a rebirth of cultural ideas.

The real clash was between negritude and foreign ideologies serving imperialism's aim of world domination, he said, Africa should refuse to follow Maoist or Soviet models. Instead, Africans should seek their own model as the Chinese and Russian peoples had done, the President told the delegates.
