  • Description

A TWO-ENGINED CARGO AIRCRAFT CRASHED ON LANDING AT DUBLIN AIRPORT TONIGHT, KILLING THE TWO-MAN CREW. THE AIRCRAFT GLANCED OFF THE ROOF OF ITS OWN COMPANY BUILDING AS IT CAME IN TO CRASH LAND.

THE AIRCRAFT, A BRISTOL WAYFARER, WAS OWNED BY THE DUBLIN CHARTER COMPANY AER TORAS, AND WAS ON A FLIGHT FROM PRESTWICK IN SCOTLAND. AS IT WAS COMING IN TO LAND THE PILOT APPARENTLY FOUND THAT THE ENGINES WERE FAILING. IN ATTEMPTING TO AVOID ANOTHER AIRCRAFT ON THE GROUND THE PILOT LIFTED AND HIT THE BALCONY OF THE AER TORAS BUILDING.

THE AIRCRAFT GLANCED OFF THE BUILDING AND BURST INTO FLAMES AS IT CRASHED A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY.

SEVERAL NEARBY OIL STORAGE TANKS WERE IN DANGER BRIEFLY, BUT THERE WERE NO OTHER INJURIES, AND THE AIRPORT WAS REPORTED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY.
