    In Nairobi, the 21st General Conference of the International Student Movement for the United Nations was officially opened on Saturday (4 August) by Kenya's Minister for Foreign Affairs. Dr. Njoroge Mungai.

    The conference is being attended by delegates from over seventy countries. It's the first of its kind to be held in Kenya and the second to be held in Africa.

    The theme of the conference is "Youth Development and Human Rights". It was described by ISMUN's regional secretary of Africa, Mr. Ben Asante, as being of profound relevance to the continent.

    ISMUN's President, Mr. David Dull from the United States, thanked the Kanyan Government for its support of the conference.

    SYNOPSIS: At Kenya's Science Teachers' College in the capital, Nairobi, diplomats and delegates form over seventy countries have been attending the Twenty-First General Conference of the International Student Movement for the United Nations, ISMUN. It's only the seconde time that ISMUN has held such a conference in Africa and the first time it's been held in Kenya.

    Students from a number of countries were among the delegates and observers.

    Dr. Njoroge Munqai, Kenya's Minister for Foreign Affairs, officially opened the conference on Saturday.

    It's theme is "Youth, Development and Human Rights", a theme described by ISMUN's regional secretary for Africa as being of profound relevance to the continent, particularly the countries languasing under apartheid.

    The conference will continue until August the twelfth and will appoint a new executive as well as discussing matters of policy. The current President of the movement thanked the Kenyan government and particularly the Foreign Affairs and Education ministries for the help they'd given the conference.
