ISOLA ARE IN LONDON FOR A PRELIMINARY EXCHANGE OF VIEWS WITH THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT BEFORE THE ANGLO-SPANISH TALKS ON THE FUTURE OF GIBRALTA ARE HELD IN LONDON ON 18TH MAY.

    SPAIN WANTS BRITAIN TO GIVE UP GIBRALTAR, AND HAS BEEN BLOCKADING THE ROCK IN RECENT MONTHS. BRITAIN HAS SAID THAT SOVEREIGNTY OVER THE COLONY CANNOT BE NEGOTIATED AND SUPPORTS THE 25,000 GIBRALTARIANS' WHICH FOR THE EXISTING BRITISH CONNECTION TO CONTINUE.

    BEFORE HE LEFT FOR LONDON, SIR JOSHUA IS REPORTED TO HAVE SAID, "WE MUST FIGHT TO THE BITTER END OF THE SURVIVAL OF OUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN".

    THE TALKS WHICH BEGIN ON 18TH MAY WILL BE BETWEEN BRITAIN'S FOREIGN MINISTER , MR. MICHAEL STEWART, AND SENOR FERNANDO CASTIELLA, THE SPANISH FOREIGN MINISTER.
