    SYNOPSIS: An all-new Canadian airplane took to the skies over Toronto yesterday. The "Twin Otter" displayed its airworthiness before nearly two-thousand guests at the DeHavilland plant:
    The plane is the latest move by Canadian aircraft manufacturers to hold a leading place in the market for so-called STOL (Stole) types -- those with short-take-off and landing characteristics. The Twin Otter can take off from a rough airfield only a thousand feet long It's designed to operate economically over a wide spectrum of commercial and military missions. The makers are aiming at markets in Canada and abroad -- such as Africa and Asia, where ground transportation is inadequate and commerce has to rely on the air DeHavilland claims the Twin Otter and other STOLE aircraft of its kind area a challenge to helicopters as the air taxi or shuttle-bus for highly populated areas of the world.
