SYNOPSIS: On the second day of his visit to Senegal, President Pompidou of France paid a visit to Dakar's Museum. The President was accompanied by his wife, Mme Pompidou, and escorted by President Senghor and his wife. The Presidential party was accompanied by the Minister of Education, the Rector of Dakar University, the Director of the National Schools Administration, the Curator of the Museum and several other officials. The Curator of the Museum pointed out works of African art to the French President explaining their origins and ritual uses. President Pompidou only arrived in Senegal on Friday on the second leg of his five-nation tour of Africa. The President flew into Dakar Airport from Mauritania. His other visits will be to the Ivory Coast, Cameroun and Ghana. The visit to Senegal goes beyond official duty for President Pompidou: he and President Senghor are old school-friends from 40-years ago. They attended the Lycee Louisle-Grand together and later met again in the French-National Assembly, where President Senghor was a Deputy.
