Background: Italian dress designer Eleonora Garnett displayed her 1970-71 winter fashion collection for the first time in her Rome villa on Tuesday (July 8).
The accent in Miss Garnett's collection was on "after five" fashions. "Ramona", a lilac dinner dress in heavy crepe showed simplicity. A high Victorian collar offset with an amethyst clip highlighted the dress with its deeply-cuffed sleeves zipped to fit the wrist snugly.
"Fea", an evening ensemble in rose pink crepe, featured a low-backed dress with matching brocade coat of gold and pink.
For cocktail wear Miss Garnett introduced "Kalmuk", a red, green and gold dress of Persian brocade with long tightly fitted sleeves zipped to the wrist, a plain round neckline and full flared skirt.
Miss Garnett favoured pure wool for day wear shown in two outfits: "Tscherkes", a black and white burlap wool coat with matching scarf-cum-hat trimmed with black fringing was worn with black leather boots; "Kifer", a double-breatesed, deep chocolate, fitted coat of Shetland wool with wide collar in contrasting white and slit pockets. "Kifer" was worn with a matching white hat, tilted forward to display a huge gold buckle.
