    ALTHOUGH IN THE UNITED STATES THERE HAS BEEN CONSIDERABLE OPPOSITION TO THE MOVE, MR. ORVILLE FREEMAN, THE SECRETARY FOR AGRICULTURE, ESTIMATED THAT PUBLIC OPINION WAS RUNNING FOUR TO ONE IN FAVOUR OF THE SALE.

    FORECASTING THE PRESIDENT'S DECISION IN NEBRASKA YESTERDAY, MR. FREEMAN SAID THAT PRIVATE AMERICAN TRADERS HAD INDICATED THAT THE RUSSIANS WERE PREPARED TO BUY FOUR MILLION TONS, OR ABOUT 140 MILLION BUSHELS, OF WHEAT FOR ABOUT 260 MILLION DOLLARS. IT IS ALSO KNOWN THAT HUNGARY, BULGARIA, AND CZECHOSLOVAKIA WOULD LIKE TO BUY WHEAT. BETWEEN THEM THEY WOULD PROBABLY PURCHASE NEARLY ONE MILLIONS TONS.
