    Leslie Parnas, 26-year-old American woman cellist, carried off first prize today at the end of a three-day international cello-playing contest held in Paris in honour of the eighty years of master cellist Pablo Casals.

    Casals himself was at the Salle Gaveau to listen to contestants compete for the 350,000 franc Prix Pablo Casals.

    Miss Parnas was adjudged best by a jury composed of distinguished members of the music world. Second prize went to 24-year-old Angelika Maes, from West Germany, while third and fourth prizes went to Valentine Felguine and Lazko Alexis, both from the Soviet Union.
