    Ghanaians were among the gold medals in the finals of the International Military Boxing Championships at Abidjan on Tuesday (July 28).

    At light-welterweight Wellington Dodoo beat Tommy Roland of the United States, and at welter, Philip Dove beat Gaby Colombelle of France. Both wins were on points.

    In round two of the Dodoo-Roland fight, the American was knocked down three times, and the Ghanaian was a clear winner.

    Another Ghanaian, featherweight Coffie beat Ruzika of Germany. also on points.

    Organised under the auspices of the International Council of Military Sport, the Championships, last held in 1969 at Salonica in Greece, brought together boxers from the armed forces of West Germany, United States, Ghana, Thailand, Iran, Italy, France, and the Ivory Coast. At Salonica Ivory Coast won one gold medal, and two bronze.

    The Abidjan Championships, the 22nd., began on July 24. Leading gold medal winners this time were the United States and Ghana, with three each.
