Lost of taffeta, chiffon and loosely woven lame were used by Spanish born designer Paco Rabanne in the evening gowns he launched as part of his autumn collection in Paris this week.

SYNOPSIS: Rabbane first gained international recognition for his designs in the 1960s when he startled the fashion world with a collection of ultramodern styles using plastic sequins, discs and metallic fabrics. Since then he's softened a lot and this year's collection is ultra feminine. This elegant tunic is made from metallic fires and can be worn over tapered slacks or on its own. What a girl wears under it depends on her. This year Rabanne has also teamed matching earrings with all his outfits.

Some gowns were reminiscent of the past. Huge frills of taffeta, not unlike those feature din the crinoline dresses of a bygone age, were very much in evidence. But no old world lady would have dared to go out in public in the bodice of this dress. Daring but dazzling, sculpted to the body in sliver lame and plunging to a dramatic vee at the back.

In this design Rabanne once again used elaborate frills. Blending a delicately patterned floral silk with chiffon and sequin trimmings he has turned out a stunning gown that must surely be the centre of attraction at any function. When Rabanne first hit the fashion scene his influence was tremendous. In recent years h's been out of the limelight. But now he's back -- utilising designs that appeal to both young and mature women.

Once again a bodice loosely woven from metallic fibres. Unusual bat sleeves and flounces give the gown a Latin American flavor. And any senorita would find herself the femme fatale of the fiesta if she turned up wearing it.
