  • Description

Foreign Ministers of the nine European Common Market countries gathered in Bunn in West Germany on Sunday (21 April] for the second day of their weekend review of major world issues.

The ministers, accompanied only by their wives and a handful of advisers, met informally in the secluded atmosphere of the Gymnich Castle -- an 18th century chateau north-west of Bonn which is surrounded by a moat and high walls.

In keeping with the setting there were no official communiques or press conferences due to be given after the meeting. Nor was there a set agenda for the meeting at which all nine foreign Ministers took part. Rather, mi???ters were left to raise any topic they thought worthwhile.

It is believed that France pressed for the meeting's informality (free of public commitments) because Foreign Minister Michel Jobert faces the ???tion of a successor to late President Georges Pompidou when he returns to Paris.

Host for the meeting was West German Foreign Minister Walter Scheel. The main thee of the two-day conference is believed to have been the forthcoming resumption of the Geneva Conference on European Security and Co-operation. The Middle East situation is also believed to have been extensively discussed.
