  • Description

Two visitors to the White House on Mar 9 - Ex-President of the United States, Harry Truman; and new US Ambassador to France, James M. Gavin. Mr. Truman chatted with President Kennedy for about 25 minutes, and said with a smile later: "We talked about everything, shoes and ships and sealing-wax".

He said Mr. Kennedy was doing "an excellent job". Ambassador Gavin is a former general and Chief-of-Staff of the US Army; and is due to leave for Paris soon. With his military background, he is thought likely to advance some useful views on ways of strengthening the Atlantic Alliance.
