  • Description

Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations George Tomeh on Friday (10 December) accused Israel of expelling their Arab civilian population, destroying villages, and confiscating Arab property and land.

These acts, he told the General Assembly in Friday's Mid-East debate, in accordance with the legislation passed at Nuremberg, constituted crimes of war and crimes against humanity.

United States Ambassador George Bush pointed out that peace cannot be imposed on the area by outsiders. In the last analysis he said, it is the parties themselves who will have to negotiate peace settlement terms.

Britain's Ambassador, Sir Colin Crows, spoke of the three attempts made over the past year to bring peace to the Middle East--the efforts of the United Nations special representative Ambassador Gunnar Jarring the U.S. initiative, and the recent mission undertaken by the Organisation of African Unity.
