    EDUCATION MINISTERS FROM FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES MET IN PARIS TODAY (TUESDAY) FOR THEIR SECOND ANNUAL CONFERENCE. REPRESENTED AT HE CONFERENCE ARE 16 AFRICAN COUNTRIES, MADAGASCAR, CANADA AND FRANCE, UNDER THE PRESIDENCY OF FRENCH SECRETARY OF STATE FOR CO-OPERATION YVON BOURGES.

    THE MAIN THEMES OF THE MEETING ARE TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING. THE DELEGATION HEADS WILL ALSO DISCUSS SETTING UP A PERMANENT SECRETARIAT FOR THE CONFERENCE.

    THE CANADIAN DELEGATION, MADE UP OF PROVINCIAL REPRESENTATIVES FROM QUEBEC, NEW BRUNSWICK, ONTARIO AND MANITOBA, GAVE A PROMISE OF INCREASED AID FOR AFRICAN COUNTRIES AT THE OUTSET OF THE CONFERENCE.

    CANADIAN DEPUTY MINISTER OF EDUCATION YVES MARTIN, WHO HEADS HIS COUNTRY'S DELEGATION, SAID THAT THE CANADIANS WOULD BE HAVING TALKS WITH AFRICAN MINISTERS WITH A VIEW TO PROVIDING INCREASED CANADIAN TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.

    THERE ARE CURRENTLY 370 CANADIAN TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WORKERS IN AFRICA AND THE NUMBER IS DUE TO BE INCREASED, SAID MR. MARTIN. ONE OF THE TOP PROBLEMS FACING THE CONFERENCE IS THE RECRUITMENT OF ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL ASSISTANTS FOR AFRICA.
