    DR. OKOI ARIKPO, FOREIGN MINISTER OF NIGERIA SAID ON SATURDAY (16 MARCH) THAT HIS GOVERNMENT IS DETERMINED TO CRUSH THE BIAFRAN REBELLION IN EASTERN NIGERIAN BY THE END OF THIS MONTH. DR. ARIKPO WAS SPEAKING AT ACCRA AIRPORT IN GHANA, ON HIS WAY BACK TO NIGERIA FROM CAIRO, FOLLOWING A THREE WEEK TOUR OF COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES AND SOUTH EAST ASIA.

    DURING HIS STOP-OVER AT ACCRA AIRPORT, DR. ARIKPO HELD A SHORT DISCUSSION WITH HIS GHANAIAN COUNTERPART, MR. ANIN. ALSO IN THE OFFICIAL PARTY WHICH MET THE NIGERIAN FOREIGN MINISTER WAS THE ACTING NIGERIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER IN GHANA, MR. OBEBE, AND THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF PROTOCOL OF THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS, MR. JOEFIO MYRES.

    DR. ARIKPO TOLD NEWSMEN THAT HE CONSIDERED HIS TOUR HAD BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL. HE SAID THERE HAD BEEN OVERWHELMING SUPPORT FOR THE NIGERIAN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, ESPECIALLY FROM THE COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES. HE SAID THAT, IF THE GOVERNMENT DID NOT ACHIEVE ITS GOAL OF CRUSHING THE REBELLION BY THE END OF THE MONTH, THE WAR WOULD CONTINUE UNTIL THE REBEL REGIME WAS DEFEATED.
