• Short Summary

FIVE THOUSAND PEOPLE PARADED OUTSIDE THE HOME OF THE FORMER GREEK PRIME MINISTER, MR. GEORGE?

  • Description

FIVE THOUSAND PEOPLE PARADED OUTSIDE THE HOME OF THE FORMER GREEK PRIME MINISTER, MR. GEORGE PAPANDREOU NEAR ATHENS, LAST NIGHT (FRIDAY) AND TOLD THE WHITE HAIRED 8-YEAR-OLD POLITICIAN: "YOU ARE THE PRIME MINISTER OF GREECE -- AND WE WANT PAPANDREOU IN POWER." THE DEMONSTRATIONS WERE MARKING THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF MR. PAPANDREOU'S RESIGNATION AS PRIME MINISTER.

AS THE CROWD MILLED OUTSIDE HIS HOME AT KASTRI, 16 MILES (ABOUT 25 KMS) NORTH OF ATHENS, THE FORMER PRIME MINISTER SMILED AND WAVED. GIRLS THREW FLOWERS TO HIM AND OTHERS LIT CANDLES, WHILE THE DEMONSTRATORS -- LED BY 122 PARLIAMENTARY DEPUTIES -- SHOUTED "DEMOCRACY," "ELECTION" AND "PAPANDREOU, PAPANDREOU".

MANY OF THE DEMONSTRATORS CARRIED PLACARDS DEMANDING THE RESIGNATION OF WHAT THEY CALLED "THE GOVERNMENT OF SKELETONS" UNDER PRIME MINISTER STEPHANOS STEPHANOPOULOS. MANY ARE ALSO MEMBERS OF MR. PAPANDREOU'S CENTRE UNION PARTY.
