    THE TOUR - THE 50TH HELD - STARTED SLOWLY FROM GHENT IN POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS INCLUDING STRONG WINDS. DURING THE FIRST 20 MILES (32 KLMS), NUMEROUS COMPETITORS HAD TYRE BURSTS. LATER, ONE CYCLIST HAD A FALL WHICH CAUSED SEVERAL OTHERS IN THE BUNCHED GROUP ALSO TO CRASH. RETURNING TO GHENT, SELS WON AFTER A STRONG SPRINT FINISH.
