    PRESIDENT DE GAULLE JOINED THOUSANDS OF PARISIANS TODAY (SATURDAY) AT CEREMONIES MARKING THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VICTORY OVER GERMANY IN WORLD WAR TWO. HE LAID A WREATH AT THE ARC DE TRIOMPHE AND LATER TOOK THE SALUTE AT A BIG MILITARY PARADE.

    WEARING HIS WARTIME BRIGADIER-GENERAL'S UNIFORM, PRESIDENT DE GAULLE DROVE UP PARIS' MOST FAMOUS BOULEVARD TO THE CHEERS OF A HUGE CROWD.

    AT THE ARC DE TRIOMPHE, HE LAID A WREATH AT THE TOMB OF FRANCE'S UNKNOWN SOLDIER. AFTERWARDS, HE STOPPED TO MEET WAR VETERANS, INCLUDING COMRADES FROM THE FREE FRENCH FORCES HE ONCE LED.

    HE THEN WENT OFF TO REVIEW A PARADE OF 3,000 SERVICEMEN. FOR HALF AN HOUR, UNITS REPRESENTING ALL SERVICES MARCHED UP THE CHAMPS ELYSEES, WATCHED BY A CROWD TEN FEET DEEP.

    (SIMILAR CEREMONIES TOOK PLACE IN MANY OTHER CITIES, RANGING FROM MOSCOW TO OSLO AND WARSAW TO BERLIN).
