The United Nations has lifted economic sanctions imposed against Rhodesia fourteen years ago. The UN move followed the signing in London on Friday (21 December) of a peace treaty ending the guerrilla war in the breakaway British colony. Rhodesia regained legal status with the arrival last weekend (15/16 December) of a British Governor, Lord Soames, to supervise preparations for independence early next year.
