  • Description

The Swedish Committee for Free Asia said today (Wednesday) that it would hold a tribunal to counter Bertrand Russell's "War Crimes" tribunal, being held in Stockholm, "just to put the record straight". A spokesman said tonight: "We have resolved to offer the tribunal the opportunity to hear evidence of North Vietnamese who on their Government's orders infiltrated South Vietnam in violation of the 1954 Geneva agreement."
Photographs of dead babies, limbless mothers, and children marked by burns and scars were displayed to members of Bertrand Russell's tribunal today in its second day of deliberations to decide whether the United States has committed war crimes in Vietnam.

The colour said were alleged to show civilians killed or injured by American bombing raids on North Vietnam. They left a tense audience in Stockholm's Folkets Hus (People's House) in silence.

Other photographs depicted the skeleton shell of hospitals, schools, churches, pagodas and houses - often with bodies among the rubble. They were shown during a 90-minute report by French physician Dr. Abraham Behar, who recently visited Cambodia and North Vietnam.

Among those shown in out film at today's session are German writer Anders Gunther; American journalist Dave Bellinger; Swedish writer, Sari Lidman; and Japanese lawyer Kinju Morikawa.

Yesterday the Tribunal's Executive President, French writer Jean-Paul Sartre, said in his inaugural address. (translation of French SOF)
