Background: YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) THE NORTH VIETNAMESE DELEGATION TO THE PARIS PEACE TALKS RECEIVED FOR THE SECOND TIME THE FOUR TEXAS WIVES WHO ARE IN PARIS ATTEMPTING TO OBTAIN THE INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR HUSBANDS MISSING IN VIETNAM. AFTER THE MEETING, TWO OF THE WIVES, MRS BONNIE SINGLETON AND MRS PAULA HARTNESS, SPOKE TO REPORTERS AND SAID THAT ONCE AGAIN THEIR INQUIRIES HAD PROVED FUTILE.

THE FOUR WIVES -- ALL FROM DALLAS -- ARRIVED IN PARIS NINE WEEKS AGO, AFTER HAVING EXHAUSTED ALL OTHER POSSIBLE MEANS OF TRYING TO GET INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR HUSBANDS WHO HAVE BEEN MISSING FOR PERIODS RANGING FROM EIGHT MONTHS TO FOUR YEARS.

AFTER THEIR FIRST MEETING WITH THE NORTH VIETNAMESE DELEGATION -- ON SEPTEMBER 17 -- THE WOMEN SAID THAT THEY HAD BEEN PROMISED LETTERS FROM HANOI WITH NEWS OF THEIR HUSBANDS -- BUT TO DATE THEY HAVE NOT HAD THESE LETTERS.

AS THEY LEFT THE NORTH VIETNAMESE HEADQUARTERS IN PARIS, THE FIRST TO SPEAK WAS 27-YEAR-OLD MRS SINGLETON:
LATER IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE FOUR WIVES -- THE OTHER TWO ARE MRS JOY JEFFREY AND MRS SANDY MCELHANON -- WILL LEAVE TODAY (WEDNESDAY) FOR STOCKHOLM WHERE THEY WILL ASK PRIME MINISTER PALME TO MEDIATE IN AN APPROACH TO HANOI.

THEN THEY EXPECT TO TRAVEL TO ROME WITH A SIMILAR APPEAL TO THE VATICAN.
