  • Description

For the past two months work has been in progress at the site where it is believed rest the tomb of the Pharaoh Seti, in the Valley of Kings, near Luxor. The discovery of 41 stones steps leading off from an unearthed passage has given new life to the diggers who think they may find the burial chamber in the state it was sealed in 1292 BC.

Behind the venture is a 50-year-old Egyptian Ali Abdul Rassoul, who keeps a guesthouse near Luxor. He is backed by the UAR Government Antiquities Department. Rassoul said he was told of the secret passage to the chamber by his father and decided to invest his savings of GBP500 pounds.

There are hopes that the burial chamber may not have been looted by grave robbers as there is no sign of anyone having already found the ancient stairway.
