    The fifth World Religions Conference opened in New Delhi on Friday (22 November), preceded by a giant parade through the streets of the Indian capital.

    Delegates from thirty countries attended the conference, which is being held during the year celebrating thw 2,500th nirvana centenary of Lord Mahavira, founder of the Jain religion.

    The head of the Jain religion in India, Muni Sushil Kumar, is the driving force behind the World Religions Conference. This, the fifth such conference to be held, was dedicated to discussions on world peace, education, yoga and religious subjects.

    On the second day of the three-day conference, Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi addressed the delegates on the subject of world unity.
